João P. Canejo received his Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering – concerning the formation of helical structures in cellulosic liquid crystal systems - in 2005, from the New University of Lisbon (NOVA), at Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCT). He is currently a researcher in the Center of Materials Science CENIMAT/I3N (Institute for Nanostructures, Nanomodeling and Nanofabrication) working in the Material Science Department (DCM). He is working in the Soft and Biofunctional Materials Group (SBMG)
Cellulosic liquid crystalline phases, production of fibers and non-woven membranes using the electrospinning technique, production of color using cholesteric cellulosic systems and collection of oil microdroplets from water
His main scientific interests are polymers, liquid crystals, cellulosic liquid-crystal phases, electrospinning, mechanical testing, and scanning electron microscopy
